With respect to the suggestions of many fathers of our church, and wanting to satisfy their long-term needs for a special wine, we started our experiments on the production of Nama Byzantine, in 1998.

Bearing in mind the long unfavourable combination of starch and acid for the priests, we aimed at the production of a special ecclesiastic wine, which has the smallest possible values of acidity, and thus is ideal for long term use.

Among dozens of greek grape varieties, we chose the most ideal - Muscat Tyrnavos, to obtain a thick and aromatic red wine, which is dominated by the characteristic sweetness and fruity flavour of muscat grapes.

We wanted to maintain in the Nama Byzantine a low degree of alcohol, so that the priests did not had a headache after the use of Holy Gifts, while at the same time it had a high content of natural grape sugars. So it does not lose its sweetness and warmth after dilution.

Try the Nama Byzantine, and give yourself the chance to rest. We tried to make the best wine. And as Greeks say, we should always offer ourselves the best!

Oenological characteristics:

Alcohol: 10% Vol
Sugars: 310 gr / lit
Total acidity: 3.65 gr / lit
Ph: 3.55

Since many priests ask us if we add sugar into wine, and point out that they would prefer a less sweet wine, we would like you to know the following:

• The Nama Byzantine contains only natural sugar grapes. This is something that everyone can easily check in an enological laboratory.

• We pursue this high sweetness, because such a sweet wine, manages to maintain the stability itself against refermentation, without needing the addition of other substances.
